PIE Pan American School Multi-Media Library and Community Workshop | North Philadelphia Pennsylvania

PIE is a mobile and multi-functional fixture system serving open-ended programming for the multi-media library and community workshop of the Congreso de Latinos Unidos Pan American Academy Charter School in North Philadelphia PA. The program for the new library / workshop called for a library exploring new media and multi-situational seating for individuals and groups ranging from 2 to 50 children and/or adults for the rapidly growing school's K-8 students and for community, parent and teacher meetings and workshops, all in an existing 1,500 square foot space. The flexible and modular fixtures, with each mobile unit simultaneously a desk, lounge seat, bookshelf, and storage, are designed to accommodate gatherings of students, community and library collections in any number of contiguous, overlapping or sequential programmatic situations. The mobility of units, each a distinct color, embodies individuation and freedom of movement while collectively orchestrating focused and nurturing settings. Curtains with custom hand drawn super graphics by Jamar Nicholas and linear LED lighting help further balance the individual within their context.
